Guest Policies

The Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club is a 126-year-old private club with a rich history and strong traditions in tennis, bathing, dining, and social events. To preserve our iconic club and proud heritage, all members and their guests are required to uphold the highest standards of club etiquette, and dress codes that are applicable in a private club setting. Members should always conduct themselves with proper decorum which is fitting within a legacy club that has placed such an emphasis on ethical traditions, values, and customs. Members are responsible for the conduct and appearance standards of their children and their guests.

It is the responsibility of every member to uphold the club rules, values, and customs in a refined and appropriate manner. Club rules, dress codes, and general information that enhance each member’s experience are contained within this policy. Members, children, and guests are encouraged to conduct themselves in a dignified and responsible manner while enjoying the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club, which is celebrated as one of the most prestigious clubs on the East Coast.


Overall standards and dress code for Club events and activities must be adhered to and if not in compliance, the staff will be instructed not to provide services for members and/or their guests.

Specifically Highlighted
  1. All members and guests entering the lobby to the Clubhouse must wear shoes and appropriate clothing.
  2. Access to the Club will not be permitted without proper attire.
  3. Black and blue denim and ripped clothing are not acceptable anytime while at the Club.
  4. Sleeveless shirts for men are not acceptable anytime.
  5. Cover-ups for ladies and shirts for men are always required for poolside patio dining and west deck social hour events. Towels are not considered cover-ups.
  6. Bermuda style dress shorts and collared shirts may be worn inside the dining rooms during lunch and for poolside patio dining during dinner. Shorts are not permitted for Saturday evening dining inside the Club unless specified by the Entertainment or House Committees.
  7. No tee shirts are allowed at any evening affair, including family nights.
  8. Throughout the Club, hats and visors must be forward facing at all times.
  9. No hats or visors for both men and women are allowed in the dining rooms.
  10. Bathing attire and bathing suits are not permitted in the Ballroom, Grille Room, or the Lobby bathrooms at any time.
  11. Children should be dressed appropriately for all evening events.
  12. It is the members’ responsibility to ensure their guests are dressed appropriately.
Dress Code Classifications
  • Formal: Full tuxedo or dinner jackets are required for men.
  • Semi-Formal: Dinner jackets and a black tie are required for men.
  • Informal: Collared shirts, jackets, and slacks are required. No tie is required. No shorts are allowed.
  • Casual: Collared shirts and slacks (shorts are permitted at outside dining) are required. No tie is required.
